Projects for flood control still have funding through 2026 using unused budget from 2022 to 2025, according to Senate Finance Committee Chair Sherwin Gatchalian. He clarified that even though the DPWH's ₱275 billion request has been removed, there are still projects that will continue, especially in areas prone to flooding.
According to Gatchalian, the DPWH and DBM are reviewing projects one by one to ensure that flood control interventions are effective. small funds may still remain for areas identified by Project NOAH as high-risk for flooding.
He also clarified that not all flood control projects will be stopped. There are flood pumps and facilities that have proven effective and will be continued. However, questionable dikes and river walls will undergo a thorough review before approval.
Meanwhile, BH party-list Rep. Robert Nazal reported that ₱1.3 trillion in funds lost due to corruption in DPWH flood control projects in just four years. He called for a science-based plan for long-term solutions, not just temporary projects.
In Oriental Mindoro, an independent audit group confirmed that six flood control projects were genuine and not ghost projects. However, problems were found such as cracks, exposed rebars, and improper waste disposal, most of which were done by a single contractor.
