Community leaders, youth, and student councils in Bulacan have come together to form Bulakenyos for Good Governance. Their goal is to hold accountable those involved in the alleged ‘ghost’ flood control projects that are still causing severe flooding in the province.
Danilo Ramos, in a press conference, asserted that corruption in projects is worsening the floods, which is further affecting farmers. He said, “Corruption and plunder must stop, because the people are the victims.”
David D’Angelo is also disappointed with the alleged lack of action by the provincial government regarding the ongoing flooding, while allegedly prioritizing the repeated repairs of roads that are still in good condition.
Data shows that Bulacan received ₱15 billion or equivalent to 15% of the funds for flood-control structures since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. took office. However, Bulacan remains a flood-prone province. The controversy began when the alleged ₱55 million ghost river wall project in Baliwag was discovered.
The Bulacan State University Student Government calls for the accountability of contractors, DPWH Bulacan Engineering Office, and officials involved in corruption. They insist, “Bulakenyos are fed up with floods and corruption. Hold accountable those who deserve to be held accountable!”
