A delivery rider in Quezon City was arrested after allegedly using more than ₱326,000 that he was supposed to remit to his manager for cockfighting.
According to the La Loma Police Station, August 13, a man approached the station and reported that he had been held hostage. He said that a gun was pointed at him and the money was taken. However, when police checked the CCTV, no incident of holdup was found.
When questioned again, the rider admitted that he was not really robbed and that he used the money for online cockfighting. As a result, he was charged with qualified theft. jewelry and almost ₱11,000 in cash were recovered from him.
The investigation also revealed that he had been working at the jewelry shop for almost two years. When asked about the case, the suspect replied “no comment.”
The PNP reminds us that this modus operandi, called “hold up me,”, is not new, where a person pretends to be robbed in order to hide the money used in the vice.
