The Gilas Pilipinas was eliminated from the competition after losing to defending champion Australia, 60-84, in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 held at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Australia got off to a hot start, hitting a slew of three-pointers — three from Jaylin Galloway and two from Jack McVeigh — for a 29-12 lead. In the second quarter, the lead grew to 20 points and ended the first half 48-28 in Australia's favor.
Gilas never recovered in the second half as Australia continued to strengthen their defense and offense. Kevin Quiambao led Gilas with 17 points (including four threes) and four rebounds. Dwight Ramos contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Justin Brownlee had 10 points and four rebounds, while AJ Edu had eight points and eight rebounds.
Five Australian players scored in double figures, led by Owen Foxwell with 17 points. In the shooting department, Australia had the upper hand with a 43-32 edge in field goals and 36.6% on three-point shots. In the rebound battle, Australia grabbed 57 compared to Gilas' 36.
Despite the loss, it was still a good campaign for Gilas Pilipinas as they made it to the quarterfinals — higher than the ninth place they achieved in 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia, where they failed to reach the quarterfinals after losing to Japan, 81-102.
