GM China has unveiled a new concept called the Buick Electra Orbit, an electric vehicle that combines retro-futuristic design and modern technology. Inspired by 1950s space-age romance and advanced EV architecture, it's a unique combination of classic and future design.
The Electra Orbit was designed by the GM China Advanced Design Center. It is nearly 6 meters long and over 2 meters wide. It features scissor doors, large 24-inch wheels, and an aerodynamic design with drag-reduction features for better performance. It also has a dual-opening frunk that includes custom luggage.
Inside, you'll find a unique 2+2 cabin layout that's filled with luxury and a retro-futuristic theme. There's a full-width “Ring” digital display from A-pillar to A-pillar, a wormhole-inspired AI assistant, and a spherical controller. The interior uses red clay tones, crystal accents, brocade patterns, and a “Digital Illusion Carpet” for a premium experience.
Painted in a color called “Space”, the exterior of the Electra Orbit aims to reflect the mystery and beauty of outer space. According to Stuart Norris, VP of Design, this concept shows how bold design, new materials, and advanced tech can be combined in an authentic way. Although it is only a design study, it demonstrates GM China’s ambition to take the Buick EV identity in a more innovative and historic direction.
