Authorities conducted an operation in the Clark Freeport Zone and dismantled a cryptocurrency scam and illegal POGO. According to P/Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones, 27 Chinese (22 males and 2 females) were arrested and 8 Filipinas who were allegedly victims of the group were rescued at the Asian Greenville Resort in Barangay Jose Abad Santos, Mabalacat City.
Armed with a mission order from the Bureau of Immigration, the suspects were caught operating an online cryptocurrency investment scam. Just an hour after the first raid, it was followed by an operation at Unit 31, Clark Hills Village D on Sacobia Street where three more Chinese were caught involved in phishing and online fraud.
Many computers, gadgets, and other electronic devices were seized. They are currently being analyzed to determine the extent of the syndicate's operations. "This is proof of our intensified campaign against transnational cybercrimes and illegal POGOs," Peñones said.
Investigations into the network involved in the scam are ongoing. Meanwhile, the rescued women are being provided with assistance and protection. The arrested foreigners will be charged with human trafficking, cybercrime, and violation of immigration laws.
