Former NBA player Marcus Morris has been arrested on charges of fraud after allegedly giving bounced checks worth $265,000 to Las Vegas casinos, according to reports.
According to KLAS TV and TMZ, Morris received $150,000 from the Wynn Hotel and Casino in June 2024 and also wrote checks totaling $115,000 for the MGM Grand in May of last year.
Morris was arrested Sunday at a Florida airport on a warrant from Nevada and is expected to be transported to Las Vegas. He faces charges of drawing and passing a check without sufficient funds with intent to defraud over $1,200 and theft over $100,000.
Although he did not play last season, Morris played 13 seasons in the NBA from 2011 to 2024 for various teams such as Houston, Phoenix, Detroit, Boston, New York, LA Clippers, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. He has career averages of 12 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
His brother Markieff Morris and his agent Yony Noy issued a statement, calling the situation "absolute insanity," and explaining that this was only about an outstanding marker at the casino and not a case of fraud.
