The relatives of the missing sabungeros have filed murder and serious illegal detention charges against businessman Atong Ang and his associates, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
During a press conference on August 1, DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla confirmed the complaint against Ang. A key witness testified that Ang was the mastermind and leader of the group involved in the crime.
According to Remulla, whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan is a rarity in this type of case because of her deep involvement in the syndicate. He added, her courage in revealing the truth should be appreciated.
Remulla identified Ang as the “main player” because he was Patidongan's employer. Ang's money was allegedly used to pay contractors and some police officers. Remulla said a fair trial is essential to achieving justice.
