Some passengers on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) were forced to climb a fence on the night of July 21, after being stuck in heavy traffic and incessant rain. This happened in the Paso de Blas, Valenzuela City section.
According to Bayan Patroller Jazmeen Zapanta, she captured video of people climbing the concrete fence one by one. In addition, they even opened the cyclone wire fence to get out. Some people even helped from beyond the fence and lent a ladder to make it easier to climb.
The video shows the people climbing the fence, as well as the helpers, drenched in rain. At 6 p.m., traffic began to slow down at the Balintawak Entrance, and around 7 a.m., some bus and jeepney passengers disembarked to climb the fence.
Zapanta was in the flooded section of NLEX for about five hours. After that, traffic flow was normal from Paso de Blas to Pampanga, where he returned home.
This incident is proof of how difficult the situation is for commuters when there are heavy rains and floods, especially on major roads like NLEX.
