Senator Risa Hontiveros filed a complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against Michael Maurillo and some social media personalities. According to Hontiveros, Maurillo accused him in a Facebook video of allegedly paying him P1 million to defame Apollo Quiboloy.
Also included in the complaint is the person behind the YouTube channel “Pagtanggol Valiente”, which was created on June 24. The senator explained that this was just a day after Maurillo contacted her office to ask for help, allegedly because he was being held in Glory Mountain by Quiboloy's group.
Hontiveros stressed that as an official, he accepts the criticism but will not allow malicious lies to spread. He said that the target is not only him but also witnesses, staff, and the Senate.
Also indicted are Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Jay Sonza, Krizette Chu, Sass Sasot, Banat By (Byron Cristobal), Tio Moreno, and Atty. Ranny Libayan, who shared Maurillo's video.
In a separate video, Maurillo said he was not intimidated or kidnapped by the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Hontiveros showed screenshots of Maurillo's emails from December 2023, in which he repeatedly asks for help and says he was kidnapped. But, he insisted, he did not receive any money or orders from the senator.
