The new Formula One film starring Brad Pitt, titled F1, has grossed over $140 million USD at the international box office in its first weekend. The film recorded a record-breaking opening for an Apple Studios movie, surpassing the previous record held by Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon with $23.2 million in 2023.
Starring Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, an F1 driver, with Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Javier Bardem. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film officially premiered on June 16, 2025, at Radio City Music Hall, before a wide theatrical release on June 27. Due to high interest, it immediately surpassed Universal's How to Train Your Dragon at the box office.
With a $200 million USD budget, the film is expected to gross even more due to its planned release on Apple TV+. The combination of theaters and streaming is expected to bring in significant revenue. It was also well-received by audiences, earning it an “A” CinemaScore and a high audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film's realistic racing scenes and excellent direction were praised, although some noted the amount of Apple product placement. Despite this, it is considered the first big hit this summer for adult viewers, after a series of family-friendly shows.
