Nissan has revealed a new 8-bit inspired livery for the Tokyo E-Prix, designed by Japanese illustrator Kentaro Yoshida. The design is inspired by retro arcade style and revives Nissan's famous Sakura theme. Featuring colorful visuals, it coincides with the release of their new game, NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo.
The game is an old-school arcade racing game also created by Yoshida, and has been played by thousands of fans including Nissan Formula E drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato. Due to the game's success, Nissan brought it to the real-world racing scene as a special design for their vehicle.
According to Kentaro Yoshida in an interview, it's been great to see the positive reaction from fans to the game. But what's even more exciting for him is the chance to see his own design in Nissan's Formula E car.
The Tokyo E-Prix is important to Yoshida because it is his home race. He said, “I am honored that Nissan has chosen me to create a new version of their Sakura design. This race is important to me because it is part of Japanese culture.”
The limited edition livery will be on display at the race this May 17–18, where Nissan celebrates the creativity of local talent and Japan's love of gaming culture....
