A 3-year-old boy in Pasay City developed kidney disease after he accidentally ate his grandmother's gummy vitamins, which he thought were candy. According to his grandmother, Angelica dela Cruz, the boy finished 40 pieces of collagen gummies a few weeks ago.
The next day, they noticed the child's face was swollen and there were rashes on his skin. They went to the hospital and the doctor thought it was just an allergy so he gave them medicine.
But five days later, the child stopped having bowel movements and lost his appetite. An ultrasound showed that his right kidney was swollen and his urine was turning red. He was admitted to the hospital for more than two weeks and almost had to undergo dialysis.
It was also learned that these gummy vitamins have not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so caution should be exercised when giving this product to children.
