The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) captured a Korean who had been hiding in Pasay City for a long time. He has been identified as Jang Seong Woong, who has a red notice from Interpol for kidnapping case in Korea.
He has been in the country for a long time, according to the NBI. He arrived in 2017 as a tourist and was allowed to stay for 30 days. But he requested an extension and later stopped reporting to the Bureau of Immigration in 2020, so he was considered overstaying.
The arrest operation was successful with the help of the NBI, Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit, Philippine Air Force, and Korean National Police. According to the NBI, he has been hiding in the Philippines for eight years.
The Bureau of Immigration also confirmed that Jang was not only involved in the case in Korea, but also in scamming activities while staying in the country.
NBI Chief Jaime Santiago welcomed the arrest and thanked the various agencies for their assistance. This action was the result of the liaison with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and coordination with the Daegu District Court.
