The Lavina family's fun road trip turned tragic after they were involved in a serious collision in Toronto on Sunday, May 18. Three Filipino-Canadian children — Ramone, Jace, and Maya Lavina, ages 6 to 15, were killed after being hit by an alleged drunk driver while they were stopped at a traffic light.
According to police, a silver Dodge Caravan driven by Ethan Lehouillier, 19, of Georgetown, Ontario, was speeding when it lost control on the Renforth Drive exit ramp from Highway 401. It crashed into the rear of the Chrysler Pacifica in which the victims were riding. Three others — including a 10-year-old boy — suffered minor injuries.
Lehouillier was charged with impaired and dangerous driving resulting in death and injury. Ontario Premier Doug Ford offered his condolences, calling for the harshest punishment for the perpetrator. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the victims' families.
