Former President Duterte Wins Davao Mayorship

The Philippine elections have become a battle between the Marcos family and Duterte. With the current vote count, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is the only one in the camp, but in Davao City, former President Rodrigo Duterte won as mayor, despite being imprisoned at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. He got 62% of the vote.

Davao residents continue to support him. Even though he is not in the city, some said they still voted for Duterte because they trust he can help the people. He returned to his post as mayor after 37 years.

His son Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, a former mayor of Davao, won as vice mayor. He will temporarily hold the government while his father is in prison. The eldest son Paolo Duterte won again as representative in Congress.

On the other hand, the results were not so good for the camp of Vice President Sara Duterte. Of the 12 new senators, five candidates from the Marcos camp entered, while only two from Sara Duterte's group. Sara faces an impeachment trial in the Senate in June and needs the support of 9 senators to avoid being removed from office.

Today's election is not just about local positions, but also has a big impact on the next election in 2028. Many Filipinos voted based on who would help them and not make the people suffer.
