Father Brian Gore, the last remaining Columban missionary in Negros, passed away on April 20, 2025, at the age of 81. He was known for his strong stance against human rights violations and for helping the poor on the island of Negros. His life became a symbol of the struggle for justice and rights of the peasants, as well as the unity of the people against the brutal dictatorship.
In 1983, he was arrested along with several Filipino priests and workers, and accused of murder in a trumped-up case aimed at silencing them. However, after a year in prison, he was released without sufficient evidence against him. Father Gore continued his mission, establishing a foundation for land reform and sustainable agriculture in Negros. He also helped communities through feeding programs and against human trafficking.
