
According to the PSA, there are scammers who send messages on social media and offer assistance in registering, updating details, or even in downloading or printing the National ID.
Victims are often asked for personal information on a fake website that pretends to be for a National ID.
There are also cases where scammers even make video calls or demand payment from their victims.
The PSA warns that anyone caught collecting or using personal data improperly can be imprisoned for 6 to 10 years and fined P3 million to P5 million.
“Data privacy and security are our priorities. We strongly condemn such frauds,” Mapa said.
To date, PSA has issued more than 55 million National ID cards from 91.7 million who registered until 2024.
The agency reportedly needs additional funds to expedite the processing of the remaining 36 million ID cards.
