The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and police arrested a couple, Leonardo and Lyka Yarte, after they duped 10 victims into fake PCG enlistments in exchange for P120,000 each....

The two were arrested on March 8 (Saturday) aboard a bus bound for Davao City, along with their unsuspecting victims. According to the report, they were supposed to take them to Manila to "arrange" their entry into the PCG using the money they obtained.

The operation to catch the suspects was led by the PCG intelligence and special operations groups in Southern Mindanao, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Police Regional Office-12 (PRO-12).

According to Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Ardiente, the General Santos City Police Station will assist in filingcasesagainst the Yartes based on the complaints of ten victims. The couple is currently detained at the CIDG detention facility in General Santos City.

Meanwhile, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan assured that monitoring of illegal recruitment will be intensified with the help of various district stations and police..

The Yarte couple will face a charge of violating the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012, usurpation of authority, and large-scale estafa.
