More than 40 construction workers have been rescued after being trapped in metal containers for 36 hours due to a massive avalanche in the Himalayas, India.
According to the Indian Army, the incident occurred on Friday after heavy snowfall at a construction site in Mana, Uttarakhand, which is 10,500 feet above sea level.
46 people are safe, while 8 are confirmed dead, according to Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

The workers, mostly migrant workers, were working on a road construction project in a remote part of the Himalayas. Due to the bad weather, they temporarily lived in metal containers, which authorities said were key to their safety.
According to Lt. Col. Manish Srivastava, it is easier to find containersunder the thick snow than individual bodies.
Rescue operations continue while investigating the impact of climate change on the increase in the number of avalanches and landslides in the Himalayas.
