The Ukrainian capital Kyiv shook after a series of ballistic missile attacks hit the city early Sunday, two days before the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion. Officials said the loud explosions began around 4 a.m. following an air raid alert that was later expanded to the entire country due to the missile threat.
The head of Kyiv's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed that the enemy had targeted the capital with ballistic weapons, and immediately urged residents to stay in shelters. Meanwhile, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a woman and a child were rushed to hospital after being injured in the city's suburbs. The attack also reportedly set fire to the roof of a residential building as temperatures dropped to almost -10°C amid the emergency response.
Ukraine continues to face an intensified offensive as the fourth year of the war that began on February 24, 2022 approaches. Despite heavy casualties and Russia's occupation of large parts of its territory, President Volodymyr Zelensky has insisted that Ukraine is “definitely not losing” and that complete victory remains the goal. He said that some territory has been recovered in recent counter-attacks, while diplomacy between different countries continues to find a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
