With the opening of the second semester, it also marks the start of high-quality volleyball action in the UAAP Season 88. The league launched the new season in a press conference at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay, attended by all eight member schools.
According to Fr. Rodel Casancio, OP, president of UAAP Season 88, “The theme 'Strength in Motion, Hope in Action' reflects the aspirations of our student-athletes—to unite while giving hope to their school and community.” He also mentioned that the season is inspiration to the youth and a display of positive behavior.
The UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball tournament will kick off on Valentine's Day at the same venue. Casancio emphasized that players and coaches are not just participants but role models and inspirations. “Your actions on and off the court have a profound impact on the lives of many. Aim for excellence and inspire,” he added.
A new innovation in the league this season is the green card, which will be given to players who demonstrate honesty and fair play. Fans have high hopes for the defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs, even without key players Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon. Joining them in the fight are the De La Salle Lady Spikers, UST Golden Tigresses, and FEU Lady Tamaraws who will continue to strive for the title.
In men’s volleyball, the NU Bulldogs are also ready to defend their title. Meanwhile, teams seeking to make it to the Final Four include the Adamson Lady Falcons, UP Fighting Maroons, Ateneo Blue Eagles, and UE Lady Red Warriors. The merger of these teams provides a higher level of competition throughout the season.
