Apple has officially launched the second-generation AirTag, an item tracker with extended range and improved ability to find items. It is powered by the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which brings more accurate Precision Finding and stronger integration with the Find My network, while maintaining a high level of privacy protection.
On the technology front, the new Ultra Wideband chip expands the Precision Finding range by up to 50 percent. This means that lost items can be tracked earlier and more clearly from greater distances. Also included is a new Bluetooth chip that helps transmit location more efficiently, even in crowded or remote areas.
Audio findability has also been improved with a speaker that's 50 percent louder, making AirTag easier to hear even when inside a suitcase or thick materials. It has a unique new sound, designed to make it easier to identify when looking for an item.
On the subject of sustainability, the updated AirTag is made of 85 percent recycled plastic and 100 percent recycled gold plating. The circular design remains, so it's still compatible with existing accessories, a practical detail for current users.
