The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has temporarily stopped the printing of PhilSys National ID cards due to a technical issue in the printing process. However, registration in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) is still ongoing, and Filipinos continue to enroll in the national ID system.
According to the PSA, more than 90 million Filipinos are now registered and have a PhilSys Number, which serves as an individual's unique identifier after undergoing biometric verification. Through this number, one can now access and download the Digital National ID, which is recognized in government transactions and selected private establishments.
The Digital National ID is available through the eGovPH app, while the agency is also expanding the program's coverage to children ages 0 to 4 as a new priority. The PSA clarified that there is no biometric capture yet for the said age group, but early registration is important to ensure an inclusive and reliable national ID system for all.
