After several delays from the original 2025 date, Bungie’s Marathon will now officially launch on March 5, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The new date provides a clear launch date for the long-awaited extraction shooter, complete with a cinematic trailer and a detailed breakdown of editions and pre-order rewards.
Marathon features co-op gameplay where three players form a team as bio-cybernetic Runners. On Tau Ceti IV, they hunt for equipment, implants, and intel before exfiltrating or dying. Successful runs will lead them to high-stakes raids in the UESC Marathon, where they will experience intense combat and a terrifying endgame presence.
The Standard Edition costs $39.99, while the Deluxe Edition includes the Midnight Decay weapon and Runner shell cosmetics. There is also a Collector’s Edition that comes with a 1/6 scale Thief Runner statue and a WEAVEworm miniature. All pre-orders unlock in-game cosmetics in both Marathon and Destiny 2, and come with limited DualSense controller and Pulse Elite headset for a more immersive experience.
Bungie’s signature style
As is customary with Bungie games, Marathon features a dark, hyper-stylized sci-fi world, responsive gunplay, and an emphasis on team chemistry. There is no loot grind campaign; instead, each mission is based on survival and strategy, emphasizing the excitement and challenge of each PvPvE encounter.
In addition to being action-packed, Bungie is focusing on long-term competitive PvPvE. There is cross-play, cross-save, and a planned rated mode in Season 1, showing that Marathon is not just a live-service experiment, but a sustainable and competitive game pillar that many are looking forward to.
