The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has implemented a clear rule that all traffic enforcers are required to accept the e-Driver’s License when presented by a motorist. According to the agency, the electronic driver’s license (e-DL) is a legitimate and official alternative to a physical license, especially in cases where the driver does not carry his physical card.
The DOTr clarified that the e-Driver’s License can be accessed through official government digital platforms, as long as the license holder has an active account. Under the existing order, a motorist shall not be arrested or penalized if he or she properly presents his or her e-DL at the time of inspection or checkpoint. This is intended to reduce hassle, delay, and unnecessary disputes between enforcers and motorists, particularly riders.
The DOTr added that this step is part of the government's broader program for the digitalization of public services. At the same time, online settlement of traffic violations can now be carried out, providing a faster, safer, and more modern experience for the public. Through these changes, the government is strengthening trust, transparency, and convenience in the country's transportation system.
