The driver of former DPWH Undersecretary Catalina Cabral is now considered a "person of interest" after her sudden death on Thursday night. According to the PNP, she is not yet considered a suspect.
According to the driver, he and Cabral were traveling on Kennon Road to La Union around 3 p.m. When Cabral asked to stop at the spot, the driver left him and went to a gas station. When he returned around 5 p.m., he could not find Cabral. He reported to the police around 7 p.m., and Cabral's body was found on the bank of the Bued River, 20 meters away from the highway, around 8 p.m.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said it is against human nature to leave a VIP in a remote area and only return to him after a few hours. Cabral's family, however, refused to submit his body to an autopsy.
