Senator Raffy Tulfo is encouraging drivers of e-trike to register and obtain a driver's license to use on major and local roads.
Tulfo said in a meeting of the Senate Committee on Public Services that even if it is not for public or highway use, if there is traffic on local roads, the driver must have a license. He said there could also be a special license for e-bikes and e-trikes.
LTO's Greg Pua Jr. agreed, saying that Acting Sec. Giovanni Lopez of the DOTr has ordered a study on licensing e-bikes and e-trikes. He said that if they exceed 50 kilos, they must be registered.
Tulfo advised that there could be a special lane for the registration of e-trikes. The LTO also suggested giving e-trikes a unique ID because they do not have a chassis number.
According to the LTO, e-trikes that are not registered before January 2 and used on national roads will be apprehend. Tulfo requested that the LTO reconsider the date to be fair to operators.
