
A teenager in Brazil has died after being mauled by a lioness in front of visitors at the Arruda Camara Zoobotanical Park on Sunday.
Gerson de Melo Machado, 19, was reportedly trapped in his thoughts, so he climbed the 610" data-end="628">6-meter wall and safety fence to see the lion. There is even a video taken of the incident.
According to authorities, Machado died of bleeding in the neck after being mauled by the lion, Leona. The zoo is closed while an investigation is underway.
The zoo's defense is that the lion did not show aggressive behavior before the incident. According to the government, it is possible that the young man committed suicide.
The victim's cousin, Icara Menezes, said, "He's not a bad kid, just a simple kid who needed support that he didn't receive."
