Israel carried out an air strike in Beirut on Sunday, targeting Hezbollah's chief of staff, according to reports. The attack hit a residential building in Haret Hreik, which it said violated the group's red line.
Five people were killed and 28 injured, according to Lebanon's Ministry of Health. The identities of the dead have not yet been released.
According to an AFP correspondent, three missiles hit the third and fourth floors of the nine-story building. Roads were in chaos, cars were damaged, and rescue workers were rescuing the wounded.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stark warning. They said Israel would continue "maximum enforcement" against anyone who obstructs the country, while Hezbollah said the attack was excessive and its full impact was not yet known.
