Nigeria reported that 20 Filipino seafarers were arrested after being caught transporting about 20 kilos of cocaine from Brazil to Lagos port.
According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the drugs were seized from a Panama-registered vessel, where the cocaine was buried under the cargo. The ship is said to normally carry coal on the route between Brazil and Colombia.
The all-Filipino crew is in custody while the investigation continues.
Recently, the NDLEA also reported that they are collaborating with US and British anti-drug agencies to investigate a cartel involved in the entry of 1,000 kilos of cocaine into Lagos port.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump increased the presence of US forces in the Caribbean to combat groups involved in drug trafficking from Latin America, such as Venezuela and Mexico.
