A group of senior citizens held a protest called “Seniors Kontra Kurakot” in Cubao, Quezon City. They wore T-shirts with the same message to show their call against corruption. According to Candy Yuzon of Seniors on the Move, they aim to hold corrupt officials accountable and put them in jail.
Yuzon said they should have been resting for a long time, but they are restless because they continue to see a rotten system. He added, how can they pass on to their children and grandchildren a country where corruption is the norm?
Yuzon also insisted that seniors should not stay at home. They want to join the call because they cannot rest assured knowing that the country has a big problem. He said that as seniors, they should just enjoy life, but they cannot turn a blind eye to injustice.
Among the protesters were retirees, like Bani Cambronero, 65, a former OFW. According to him, they are among those most affected by corruption because over time, this is what they have often experienced. For them, it is time to stand up.
Cambronero added that this is just the beginning of their call. They also plan to join a larger anti-corruption rally in Luneta on November 30.
