PAGASA is currently monitoring a strong typhoon east of Mindanao that is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or tomorrow morning as Typhoon Uwan. It has the potential to become a super typhoon as it approaches Northern Luzon.
According to PAGASA's report, at 10 a.m., the storm was 1,645 kilometers east of Mindanao and moving northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. It is expected to strengthen further due to warm sea temperatures and favorable conditions.
Upon entering the PAR, Uwan is expected to head towards the provinces of Isabela or Aurora, where it is possible to make landfall. This will cause strong winds, heavy rains,, and storm surge or waves along the coasts. LGUs in the areas to be hit are being prepared and reminded to prepare evacuation plans and relief goods.
Meanwhile, the weather remains good in most of the country except for some rain and thunder. The amihan also persists, bringing cold weather to the northern part of the country.
As agencies prepare for the arrival of Uwan, the PNP and DILG are also on alert for the possible impact of the storm. According to Senate President Vicente Sotto III, LGUs can immediately use their calamity funds for preparation and assistance to affected areas.
