Rep. Edgar Erice's challenge — In a heated speech, Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice urged President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte to prove their fight against corruption by supporting the Anti-Dynasty Bill. According to Erice, anger or emotion is not enough — we need real reform even if it goes against the interests of our own family.
Erice directly said that Marcos's greatest legacy would be if he could put aside his family's personal interests. He said, “Your anger and tears are sincere, but they are not enough. Include the Anti-Dynasty Bill in the legislative agenda.”
On the side of VP Sara Duterte, Erice asked if their fight is really for the nation or just for the political supremacy of the family. She added that if the Constitution protected Duterte against impeachment, it should also be reciprocated by reducing their family's power in politics.
Erice also urged his colleagues in Congress to make sacrifices and reduce the power of their families in politics. He said, “If love for the country is true, it is time to reduce the corruption and power. The country is in ruins.”
Currently, seven Anti-Dynasty Bills have been filed in the 20th Congress, most of them from minority lawmakers. Erice's proposal seeks to limit the number of members of a family who can hold government positions at the same time to only two.
