The Piggatan Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan collapsed on Monday afternoon, October 6, 2025. Several ten-wheeler trucks were trapped after the three-decade-old bridge collapsed around 5:30 p.m.
The bridge gave way as an 18-wheeler truck loaded with rice was passing by. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and authorities responded immediately.
The Piggatan Bridge is important because it connects the northern barangays of Alcala to the town and roads leading to Tuguegarao City. Due to the collapse, motorists will be forced to take a detour through Gattaran, Baggao, or Peñablanca, which will add several hours to the trip.
The police said they will investigate the incident because it is not yet clear whether the bridge had previous damage or whether it was recently inspected by DPWH.
Currently, the bridge is closed and is off-limits to vehicles while authorities assess the extent of the damage.
