The Bureau of Customs (BOC) sent aid to victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu last week. This included confiscated items such as 56 rapid emergency tents, 1,087 tents, and 50 mobile power supplies.
According to BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, there are areas where power is still intermittent, so the equipment they sent is a great help.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Undersecretary Harold Cabreros added that up to 3,200 houses have collapsed while more than 30,000 houses have been damaged. Most residents are sleeping outside because they are afraid to enter their homes again. That is why tents, food and water are in great need.
Apart from the confiscated items, BOC employees also contributed 100 sacks of rice estimated to be worth ₱250,000.
The relief goods will be delivered by Philippine Air Force C-130 to Medellin and Bogo City. additional assistance is expected from the BOC in the coming days.
