The official death toll from the Cebu earthquake on September 30 has risen again to 70 people. The highest number of deaths were recorded in Bogo City (32), Medellin (14), San Remegio (15), Tabogon (6) and one each in Sogod, Tabuelan and Borbon.
There were 559 injured, of which 180 were from Bogo City, 150 from Tabogon and the rest from neighboring towns. Up to 128,294 families or 457,554 people were affected by the earthquake, according to NDRRMC data.
More than 18,154 houses were damaged, of which 3,507 completely collapsed. For those who lost their homes, tent cities were set up in Bogo City and other towns. There are approximately 2,500 tents that can accommodate five people each. The DSWD also distributed 75,000 food packs as assistance to the affected families.
According to Phivolcs, more than 5,092 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquake. The public is advised to remain alert as some aftershocks may reach Magnitude 5.1. Meanwhile, distribution of food, rice, blankets and supply kits from various government agencies continues.
