
The Phivolcs recorded nearly 6,000 aftershocks in Northern Cebu after the 6.9 magnitude earthquake on September 30, 2025. It has reached 5,982 aftershocks, of which 1,219 were plotted and 25 were felt by residents.
The strongest aftershock this Sunday was a 4.4 magnitude with a depth of 10 kilometers in Bogo City, Cebu. It was felt in Daanbantayan (Intensity II) and in Leyte (Intensity I) such as Villaba, Abuyog, and Carigara.
According to Geologist Mahar Lagmay, it is normal for many aftershocks to occur after a strong earthquake because "the fault is still adjusting." He added that this may last for a month or more, but it is gradually weakening.
The NDRRMC reported 71 deaths and 559 injuries. Also affected were 455,631 individuals or 128,464 families in 15 cities and towns. There are 26,542 evacuees, of which 25,291 are outside evacuation centers and 1,251 are inside.
A total of ₱713 million was reported in infrastructure damage and 18,154 houses were damaged.
