Former President Rodrigo Duterte is facing 3 murder charges after prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) filed a complaint. The case covers killings in Davao City and across the country from 2013 to 2018.
First Case: Killing by the Davao Death Squad (DDS). 19 victims were recorded in nine incidents from 2013 to 2016. Most of those killed were allegedly pushers and thieves.
Second Case: Killing of “high-value targets” in 2016 to 2017. This involved 14 victims from five incidents. According to the complaint, there was a reward ranging from ₱50,000 to ₱1,000,000 per target.
Third Case: Killings in barangay anti-drug operations from 2016 to 2018. This includes 43 deaths and several attempted murders in 45 incidents. The victims were small-scale drug users and pushers.
For now, the ICC has postponed the trial after Duterte's lawyer said that the former president's health is deteriorating and he is not ready to face court. According to government data, around 6,000 have died in the anti-drug campaign, but according to human rights groups the real number could be as high as 30,000.
