The main suspect in the 2007 disappearance of British teenager Madeleine McCann was released from prison in Germany on September 17 after serving a seven-year sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old woman in Algarve, Portugal.
Christian Brueckner, 49, has previously been convicted of child abuse, drug trafficking, and rape. Although he is considered the main suspect, his lawyer denied any connection to Madeleine's case. He was taken out of jail in a car and guarded by police.
The court imposed that he must wear an electronic tag for five years, report monthly to a parole officer, and immediately report any changes to his address. If he violates, he could be fined or imprisoned for up to three years.
Madeleine, who was three years old at the time, disappeared from her room while her parents were eating near their holiday resort. To this day, police in Britain, Germany, and Portugal continue to investigations to find hard evidence against Brueckner.
The parents of Madeleine, who would now be 22 years old, continue to hope and pray for their daughter to be found. “We love her so much and we miss her so much,” their message read.
