The bank denied that there was a system hack or insider involved after content creator Jana Berenguer lost money due to alleged unauthorized transactions.
According to the bank's statement, there were password resets on September 14, a day before the unauthorized transactions occurred. There was also device registration using OTP on the same day. They added that there was no change in the registered mobile number, and log-in and registration alerts were sent to the client.
The bank also sent transaction alerts on September 15, six hours before the client reported it to the hotline. They also clarified that transfer limits were not exceeded and that their security policies remain in place.
Berenguer allegedly refused to talk to them and continued making videos about the incident. The bank reminds us not to ignore the warning signs and messages sent through official channels.
The case went viral after Berenguer posted on his page what happened on September 15. He lost his business savings amounting to millions of pesos, money that was supposed to be reserved for his son's surgery. He suspects that his phone was phished via a QR code while at a bazaar.
