Filipina tennis star Alex Eala made a splash in Brazil after defeating Yasmine Mansouri of France, 6-0, 6-2, at the WTA250 Sao Paulo Open. The match lasted only 70 minutes and saw her opponent barely form.
As the No. 3 seed and currently World No. 61, Eala showed her form after winning six consecutive matches, including her historic win in Mexico that gave her the first WTA title for the Philippines.
She will next face Julia Riera of Argentina, World No. 188, in the Round of 16. If Eala wins, she will move even closer to the Top 50 in the world rankings.
In addition, Eala's name also rose when she defeated Clara Tauson of Denmark, World No. 15, at the US Open. She became the first Filipina to enter and win a Grand Slam main draw, a great honor for the country.
At the age of 20, Eala has proven that she can compete with the best in the world and is gradually emerging as one of Asia's strongest tennis players.
