The animated hit KPop Demon Hunters topped the North American box office after earning an estimated ₱1 billion (P18M) in a special single event. It was the first major theatrical success for Netflix, which has previously been known to shy away from releasing films on the big screen.
Since its release in June, KPop Demon Hunters has become the platform's most-watched animated film and has also topped the music charts. Over the weekend, thousands of fans from around the world attended singalong screenings where they sang, danced, and dressed up as the stars.
According to experts, this film has delivered sold-out audiences and a unique sense of fun that is rare in theaters. The story of a Kpop girl group who fight demons with their music continues to attract more and more viewers.
Meanwhile, the horror film "Weapons" still recorded a huge profit of ₱868M (P15.6M) and is likely to remain the official number one this week. This was followed by “Freakier Friday” which earned ₱511M (P9.2M), while “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “The Bad Guys 2” also made it into the top 5.
