The International Criminal Court (ICC) has decided to postpone its decision on former President Rodrigo Duterte's request for provisional release. This is to give his camp more time to submit additional information.
According to the ICC, they want to ensure that there are enough details before deciding whether to allow Duterte to be temporarily released while his case continues. The three judges of the chamber agreed to postpone the decision, although one of them, Judge María del Socorro Flores Liera, had a slight objection.
Duterte filed a request on June 12, based on humanitarian grounds due to his age of 80. This was strongly opposed by the Prosecution on June 23 and by the Office of Public Counsel for Victims (OPCV) on June 25. This was followed by various responses and documents from both sides until July.
On July 14, the defense filed an urgent request to postpone the decision, requesting more time to submit additional evidence and other necessary processes. As of now, there is no specific date for when the ICC will make a decision again.
