Typhoon Crising strengthened into a tropical storm on Friday, July 18. According to PAGASA, the center of the storm is 335 km east of Echague, Isabela, and has winds of up to 65 kph and gusts of up to 80 kph. It is moving west-northwest at a speed of 20 kph.
Signal No. 2 has been raised in areas such as:
Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), northern and eastern parts of Isabela, Apayao, parts of Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and parts of Ilocos Sur. Expect winds from 62 to 88 kph bringing danger to life and property.
Signal No. 1 is raised over:
The remaining parts of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, other parts of Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Aurora, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, and some parts of Bicol and Visayas. Winds of 39 to 61 kph are possible.
Strong winds and rains will be felt in many parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao from July 18 to 20 due to the southwest monsoon strengthened by the typhoon. This includes Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and some parts of Mindanao.
PAGASA also warned of rough sea conditions.
Fishermen and small boats were advised to not venture out in areas with high waves that will range from 2.0 to 5.0 meters. This is dangerous for all types of vessels.
According to the forecast, Crising is likely to make landfall in Cagayan or Babuyan Islands on the afternoon of July 18. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday, July 19, and may strengthen into a severe tropical storm.
