The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the license of a ride-hailing driver who was caught threatening his passengers with a bladed weapon after a disagreement over a destination. The incident occurred on Sunday night and went viral on social media.
According to the LTO statement, they issued a show-cause order to the driver and asked him to explain why his license should not be revoked. In the viral video, the driver can be seen forcing passengers to get out of the vehicle and brandishing a knife, threatening to stab them.
The LTO said the driver's behavior was caused by a "minor misunderstanding," but LTO chief Greg Pua Jr. called it "unacceptable." Now, the driver is facing several complaints.
The agency also asked the registered owner of the vehicle to explain why he or she should not be held responsible for the incident, and the vehicle was placed under “alarm.” Passengers reported the incident to the ride-hailing firm via email and the InDrive app, and they are still awaiting a response from the company.
