The 4Ps families in Bataraza and Brooke’s Point, Palawan received free smartphones under the project of DSWD, Globe, GCash, and Ayala Foundation. Through the Pre-loved Phone Donation Drive, 256 families were given repaired smartphones, most of whom are new to using this technology.
The free cellphone is not just a simple tool for texting or calling. It provides a safer and faster way to get their cash grants using GCash. In addition, it brings them closer to online learning, digital business, and family communication. According to Carl Cruz, CEO of Globe, the project is for equality and more opportunities in life.
With the help of volunteers from Globe, GCash, and Ayala Foundation, beneficiaries were taught how to use phones, do SIM registration, and create GCash accounts. BPI Foundation also taught financial literacy so families can learn to manage their finances.
According to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, government services are now easier. There is no longer a need to walk far just to get aid. This is a great relief especially for remote and remote areas in Palawan.
GCash also said that their goal is to include everyone in the digital economy and ensure that no one is left behind. With smartphones and GCash, they can receive assistance more quickly and efficiently and use it for their daily needs.
