The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested three foreigners posing as Filipinos in Zamboanga Del Sur. According to BI spokesperson Melvin Mabulac, one of those arrested works in the charcoal business. He presented government IDs, but upon verification, it did not match his real identity.
BI personnel also went to a shopping center where the manager was also pretending to be Filipino. Upon verification, it was found that he was a Chinese national along with another colleague. Two of them were holding Philippine driver’s license stating that they were Filipino citizens.
The three are now detained at the BI detention center in Bicutan, Taguig while an investigation is underway into how they obtained the fake IDs. According to Mabulac, this is worrisome because it could be used for crime or espionage, which is a major threat to national security. Coordination is ongoing with the PSA, AFP, and other agencies to determine who is behind this syndicate.
