Agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested nine Koreans allegedly involved in an online scam in Parañaque. According to Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, the joint operation began on Wednesday night and ended the next morning.
The foreigners are currently in the custody of the Organized and Transnational Crime Division of the NBI. They will be transferred to the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig, for further investigation and deportation proceedings.
According to Viado, foreigners who violate Philippine law, especially if involved in syndicates or serious crimes, will be arrested and deported.
Authorities continue to remind the public to be cautious when transacting online and to report suspicious activity immediately.
The quick action of the BI and NBI is proof of their determination to fight criminal foreigners and protect the country against internet frauds.
