A senior citizen in Tondo, Manila was the victim of a scam on June 15. According to relatives, the grandmother was on her way home from the market when she was approached by a male and female accomplices. They persuaded her to get into a parked vehicle, and that's where the incident began.
When she got into the car, there were two other people inside—a driver and another woman. That's when the group reported a holdup. They allegedly assaulted the grandmother and forcibly took the ₱40,000 she was carrying as well as her jewelry. They even beat her in the face for resisting, according to her relatives.
A few moments later, the old man was blindfolded and dropped off at Divisoria. He was even given fare and IDs before the suspects fled. After returning home, he immediately reported what happened to his family.
The victim's family approached the barangay and the suspects were captured on CCTV. Both were wearing masks and hats, so they were not immediately recognized. They have also coordinated with the police for the investigation.
Authorities warn: avoid carrying large amounts of money or expensive items, especially when shopping. This type of scam usually targets elderly people.
